Dean S. Lewis was born and raised in Sturgis, Michigan. He attended Olivet College, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in 1955, and the University of Michigan Law School, obtaining a law degree in 1958.

Dean’s practice involves estate planning and probate, as well as business and real estate.

Dean’s bar admissions include Michigan and Missouri, both in 1959.

Dean is perhaps best known as a past President of the State Bar of Michigan, serving in that capacity in 1980-1981. In addition, Dean is past President of the Kalamazoo County Bar Association. He served as a member of the American Bar Association House of Delegates (1977-1982). Currently, Dean is a member of the Corporation, Finance and Business Law and Probate and Estate Planning Sections of the State Bar of Michigan, and the Corporation, Banking and Business Law, and Real Property, Probate and Trust Law Sections of the American Bar Association.

Dean is a Life Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC) (Elected 1979), the American Bar Foundation, and the Michigan State Bar Foundation (Trustee 1992-2000). He is also a Fellow of the American Judicature Society. Dean has served on numerous boards, including the Chamber of Commerce, the Kalamazoo County Red Cross, and the Boy Scouts of America. He was a Member of the Board of Directors of the American Judicature Society (1983-1987), the American Bar Association House of Delegates (1977-1982), and was President of the Kalamazoo Rotary Club (Downtown) from 1992-1993. He served as Clerk of The First Presbyterian Church of Kalamazoo (August, 1997-December, 2004), and currently serves as a trustee of Olivet College.
