Mr. Engels has represented lending institutions with an emphasis on real estate matters ranging from the buying and selling of property to restructuring mortgages and the forfeiture of land contracts and foreclosure of mortgages. He has also represented various corporations in employment, contractual and debtor/creditor relations. He has extensive experience in civil litigation. Mr. Engels was an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney in Kalamazoo County and the Prosecuting Attorney in Barry County.

Mr. Engels is a member of the Kalamazoo County Bar Association and State Bar of Michigan.

Mr. Engels has served on the Board of Directors of the Kalamazoo Consultation Center (1985-1991) and the Constance Brown Hearing Center (President 1995) and is the President of the Parchment Schools Foundation. He is a member of the Downtown Kalamazoo Kiwanis Club (President 1990-91).
